San Marcos TX Artist's Ambitious Silk Painting Celebrates Our Lady Of Guadalupe

Rio Claro Studio is proud to announce a live demonstration of painting on silk techniques by artist/ designer Gigi Mederos on Saturday, December 12, 2015 between 9 am - 5 pm during the monthly arts celebration in San Marcos TX called ArtsSquared.

The regular art marketplace event coincides with the annual celebration in Mexico City and around the world of the building of the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe, and the miracle of the roses and the tilma which occurred on December 12th.

For this ambitious painting, the artist researched the many aspects and tellings of the story, and was inspired by the traditions of Aztec codex painting. Mederos will paint the stretched silk panel with colored dyes after first hand-drawing all of the elements with clear and colored guttas; a water-based resist used in the Serti or French Serti (closed or fence) technique of silk painting. The artist will be working on a narrative-style painting on silk that incorporates the story visually in four panels on a piece of silk approximately 35" x 35".

Gigi Mederos is originally from Venezuela and has been a fine artist in the United States for over 30 years. She has been painting on silk for nearly five years; producing many colorful and diverse works that are both wearable and collectible.
